October 7th Massacre and Denial
There is indisputable evidence of the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, terror attack on Israel. Nonetheless, social media, streets, and campuses are filled with people who – just like holocaust deniers – deny any atrocities ever took place while at the same time wishing they happened again.
The scale of the sexual violence committed on October 7th may never be known. Victims were raped, mutilated, and murdered in the most horrible ways. Others were taken to Gaza and are still there, unable to tell their stories. For this reason, Screams before Silence is so important.
Screams Before Silence Documentary
Screams Before Silence is a new documentary directed by Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Meta and founder of LeanIn.org. In it, she interviews eyewitnesses and survivors, released hostages, medical and forensic experts, and first responders.
The film is, naturally, very painful to watch. If you’ve been following the events since October 7th, you probably know some, or many, of the interviewees by name, and now you get to hear their stories, in some cases for the first time. Sandberg conducts the interviews caringly and sensitively but still asks some questions. I was not expecting that, but since it was done in a proper, caring way, I think it was an important addition to please the more skeptical viewers.
